Just one night…

Marcus Sullivan has always been the responsible older brother, stepping in to take care of his seven siblings when their father died. But when the perfectly ordered future he’s planned turns out to be a lie, Marcus needs one reckless night to shake free from it all.

Known throughout the world by only one name—Nico—pop songstress Nicola Harding is seen as the ultimate sex kitten. But it’s all a lie. After a terrible betrayal she refuses to let anyone else close enough to find out who she really is…or to hurt her again. Especially the gorgeous stranger at the bar.

One night is all Nicola and Marcus agree to share with each other. But instead, a deeper connection than either of them could have anticipated begins…

After having been introduced to Marcus Sullivan in the first book of Bella Andre’s series, I was greatly looking forward to reading this next installment of her Sullivan series. And I’m happy to say that this book didn’t disappoint! =^.^=

Out of the two family members that I’ve read so far, I have to say that Marcus is my favorite, though after having had the chance to spend a bit of time getting to know Lori, one of the Sullivan twins, I may eventually find myself contradicting myself as I progress through this series. I mean when you get right down to it, it’s real easy to like all of the Sullivan family members! But Marcus so far has definitely earned my respect and admiration, and given everything that has happened in his life, it was nice to see his story come to a happy ending. There’s something about a guy who puts himself out there to help his family without being a Momma’s boy that is rather attractive. It conveys the idea that if he can provide that much support and love for his family, he’d equally be able to do that and more with a family of his own. In that light, Marcus is a very attractive character! I greatly enjoyed watching him interact with his sister, Lori, and the rest of the Sullivan clan. And then to watch him interact with Nicola, to give her the comfort and attention that she deserves but without all the pressure, was nice. He’s sweet, caring, and devoting…I mean come on, who wouldn’t like him? It also helps that he’s seriously sex in a suit! Yum!

Likewise Nicola, aka Nico, was also fun to experience. Her struggle to live up to the music industry’s expectations to what she should be like, a sex kitten and party girl, while wanting to stay true to herself was true to life and it endeared her character to me. I wanted her to find a balance between it all, to overcome the insecurities and the hype, and be herself while succeeding in the industry. There was so much going on with her character that I connected with as a reader…she’s by far one of the more easiest characters to relate to whom I’ve read to date. And I know I’m not making a lot of sense here, but I just saw a lot of myself in her.

By far I loved reading the scenes where Marcus and Nicola were together because they are so sweet and touching. Yes, there are moments where they can’t keep their hands off each other, but there are also moments where they are just enjoying each other’s company. The initial scene where they first meet up for a one night stand and Nicola falls asleep in Marcus’s lap…yeah, I had a sappy smile on my face as I read it. What can I say, while I like bodice ripping novels, I also really love those types of books that slowly develop the relationship and allow for both characters to get to know one another before jumping into each other’s arms. The romance in this book is the perfect blend of smoky hot and soft tenderness, and this makes it all the more enjoyable at the end when Marcus actively pursues Nicola to try and make her realize that he’s the only guy for her. Yep, I completely fell for the guy chasing the girl bit at the end of the book. While I could see some folks finding it rather creepy and stalker like, I actually thought it was sweet and funny. Especially when you take into consideration the type of guy Marcus really is at heart. It’s so out of character for him…the entire event is perfect.

When all is said and done, I really enjoyed this book and I devoured it in a matter of hours (figuratively speaking, not literally)! Once I started, I didn’t want to stop. And I’m starting to get the feeling that this is par for the course with Andre’s novels. Andre has a wonderful way of spinning a story while adding just the right amount of heat to keep readers coming back for more. I’m looking forward to reading Gabe’s story, Can’t Help Falling in Love (book #3), though I will admit that I actually want to read Lori’s story just a bit more (book #8). Like I said, once you get introduced to the Sullivan family, there’s no way you cannot get hooked and fall in love! Just like with the first book of the series, I highly recommend this novel to anyone who is looking for a fun summer read.

Before she could reconsider, she took the phone from Marcus and dialed the most recently called person, someone named Mary. It was probably his wife, Nicola thought with a fresh dose of cynicism as the number rang a handful of times.
After several rings, a woman picked up. “Marcus, I wish you hadn’t left the party without saying goodbye.”
Surprised at a voice that clearly belonged to an older woman rather than a lover waiting for Marcus to come over and do her later tonight, Nicola finally said, “Um…hi. This isn’t Marcus. He-“
She felt like a total idiot sitting in the back of a cab trying to find the right words to say to a complete stranger on Marcus’s recent calls list. All while Marcus watcher her with those dark eyes.
Knowing she had to at least take a stab at explaining to Mary why she was calling, Nicola said, “He just gave me his phone and said I could call you.”
There was a brief moment of silence before the woman she’d just dialed said, “Is my son all right?”
His mother? That was the last person he’d called before coming to the club?
Nicola was stunned silent for a moment, before realizing she needed to reassure his mother. After all, a random stranger had just called her late on a Friday night using her son’s phone. She was probably picturing a car accident, or worse, at this point.
“Yes, he’s fine. Perfectly fine.”
Marcus was leaning back against the seat, his arms folded across his chest as he watched her fumble through this unexpected conversation. He wasn’t smiling, but the corners of his mouth looked like they might be twitching just the slightest bit. Nicola had the thought that he was too mature, too good-looking, too full of heat and desire for her, to be considered “cute.” But right then as he tried not to smile while watching her navigate the conversation with his mother, cute was exactly the word that came to mind.
All these years, she’d never met anyone else who spoke with their parents as much as she did. Especially not a man, probably because they thought it made them seem less masculine.
Nicola found herself feeling exactly the opposite. A man who loved his mother won a lot of points in her book and, instead of seeing Marcus as less sexy, or as some kind of Mama’s boy, a glimmer of respect began to form for the beautiful stranger sitting beside her.
