Guest Interview with Elle J Rossi, Author of Broken Flight

Today we have the wonderful Elle J Ross, author of Broken Flight, with us to discuss her first book in the Angels of Punishment series. Welcome Elle and thank you for joining us, murr! =^.^=

E.J.R. – Thank you so much for having me here today!

Please tell us 3 fun facts about yourself.

Elle-J-Rossi-200x300E.J.R. – I am the self-proclaimed queen of “Ugly Dancing”. If you ever see me, ask and I will show you!

I can’t stand cold food. If it isn’t ice cream or fruit, food needs to be HOT.

I sprinkle my co-workers with fairy dust very day. It’s great for mojo and morale. And it also makes us invincible!

Could you tell us a couple of favorite books/authors that inspired you to write?

E.J.R. –  Absolutely! I love Heather Graham. I think I’ve devoured every book she’s ever written. Another favorite is Kresley Cole. She really has a way of making her characters pop out of the pages.

What is your writing process? Do you outline, fly by the seat of your pants, or a combination of both?

E.J.R. – I’m definitely a combo deal. I like to write a very loose premise, but I always give myself permission to take detours. Some of the best roads are found when we veer off the main path.

Can you share with us your typical writing day. Is there anything you have to have while writing?

E.J.R. – Well, I work a full time day job, plus I design cover art. What this means is that I write anywhere and anytime I get the chance. If I’m waiting for water to boil on the stove, I’m writing. The only thing I need other than coffee is chaos. I seem to do my best writing when the house around me is going crazy bananas!

Please tell us 3 behind the scenes fun facts about the book.

E.J.R. – 1)    Broken Flight was written for NaNoWriMo. (National Novel Writing Month). If you’re not familiar, it’s a writing challenge where the goal is to write 50,000 words in one month. I thought it was impossible. It wasn’t! I actually did it. The entire book took a few more months to write, and then I didn’t release it for two more years. All in all, it was a great experience and I would definitely do it again.

2)    I’m secretly in love with Mickale.

3)    I stuck my tongue on the top of a battery to remind myself what that metallic taste is like. I had to in order to get the right description for Azrael’s power.

What inspired you to write Broken Flight?

Broken-Flight-Cover-187x300E.J.R. – Sadly, this book was inspired by the death of someone very close to me. This was probably the darkest time in my life, a time where question after question caused many sleepless nights. It was difficult to write, but, ultimately, something I needed to do. I now have a better understanding and appreciation of life and hope. Of course, this makes it sound like this book is depressing. It isn’t! I promise!

What was your favorite scene when writing the book? What was the most difficult?

E.J.R. – One of my favorite scenes was the cemetery scene in Salem. It was intense and actually fun in a really scary kind of way. As far as the difficult scene, there were a few, but without giving any spoilers, the most difficult was when Anna and Grey were “separated” again.

What 3 words would you use to describe Anna? Grey?

E.J.R. – Anna is troubled, angry and relentless. Grey is determined, guilt-ridden, and passionate.

What is it that makes your hero and heroine perfect for each other?

E.J.R. – I really like this question. I think because Anna and Grey can growl and snarl at each other but never have to question their love. They have this comfortable way about them that many of us don’t have even after years of being together. They are who they are and each loves the other for their true self.

What upcoming projects are you working on and when can your fans expect to look for them?

E.J.R. – I’m currently working on a full-length urban fantasy featuring Josie Hawk from Crimson Beat of the A Celtic Tapestry anthology. I’m hoping it will be released in December. After that, the third book in my witch trilogy. And then, I’m hoping Mickale from Broken Flight will get his story!

Thank you for joining us today, Elle. It was wonderful to have you, murr! =^.^=

E.J.R. – I absolutely loved visiting today! You are most awesome and I hope to visit again soon.
