Armchair BEA – Networking!

Design credit goes to Nina of Nina Reads

Today’s Armchair BEA discussion has participants sharing ways in which they network offline. Whether it’s through local indie bookstores, library reading clubs, book signing events, etc., there are endless ways in which bloggers can network offline! So for this post, we felines wanted to share with you two of our favorite ways to network within our local community.

Our first choice, and ultimate love, is our local independent bookstore: Mysterious Galaxy!

This is our go to store for all things books. They’ve got everything from author event signings, reading clubs, special in-store holiday events, and more! It’s literally our second home. =^.^=  Thanks to them we’ve met amazing authors such as Gail Carriger, Nancy Holder, Naomi Novik, Gini Koch, Richelle Mead, Jacqueline Carey, and so many more. There’s no end to the wonderful stuff we can say about them! We encourage everyone to check them out at some point. And if you can’t physically visit the store, they have a wonderful online presence as well.

Our second means of networking in our city is: San Diego-Comic Con!

Ever since the folks at Comic-Con International allowed the big name publishing houses to attend the convention, we’ve been able to talk with representatives from some of our favorite publishers and learn about brand new titles before their publication. We’ve also been able to attend author event signings and usually come home with a ton of book related swag! This is one of the few events that we look forward yearly. With so many great publishers in attendance and a long list of outstanding authors visiting each day, you can bet that there will be something for everyone at the Con!

  1. I would LOVE to attend a Comic-Con some year!! I’m a gamer as well and that would be a dream come true!

Here are my posts so far for Armchair BEA:

    Day 1 | Introduction
    Day 2 | Best of 2012
Day 2 | Giveaway | Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
    Day 3 | Networking

  2. Your bookstore looks wonderful. You’re so lucky to have an independent store near you.

Also – your blog design is adorable.

  3. I love the logo for your local bookstore. How awesome! It would be hard for me to walk away.

  4. Great and specific ideas. The pic is really nice.

  5. I am dying to go to a Comic Con someday before I die. For the books and also because I’m a big nerd.

And your bookstore looks so cozy and welcoming! I love it!

  6. I wish they had a bookstore like that near me. That’s awesome. There’s not many small owned bookshops around anymore really.

    • Mysterious Galaxy is the only small owned bookshop that we know of here in town. It’s also one of the last few remaining bookstores in the entire city. It’s sad to see so many well-loved shops closing up. Hopefully a new store will open up near you that is everything you want it to be and more. =^.^=

  7. San Diego ComiCon!!!!! I’m so jealous!!!! One of my favorite authors goes there every year, but I haven’t made it yet. I love the name of your blog, by the by. 🙂

  8. Truthfully, as much as we love ComicCon, we often have problems getting in because of the whole no animals allowed unless they are service animals. Talk about feline discrimination! Every year we have to show our papers to the proper folks at registration. You’d think by now they’d learn…sigh
